Chairman’s Comments - The Pot Bellied Pigs RFC would like to thank PB Curious (Boris Niethammer), Rugby Club Tubingen, and our European-based Piggies for organizing, hosting, and joining the first ever Euro Piggies Tour in 2022! Once upon a pandemic, several little piggies who had migrated away from their natural habitat of Hong Kong came together and decided it was time to meet up again. Little did they know then what would unfold in the middle of June 2022 in the Rugby development country of Germany.

PB Curious, who had some experience setting up tours and organising Hotels and a game of Rugby, was happy to take up the organising bit and with help from PB Mussolini, the great designer and provider of team wear, it was going to be a great tour.

A total of 28 Piggies signed up for the tour of which 25 finally made the tour.

Now that is 3 little piggies lost and you might wonder if a big bad wolf was huffing and puffing and blowing their house in. Well it was the big bad airline industry cancelling flights in the end.

PB Pavarotti, PB Curry King and another unnamed piggie fell victim to the chaos that is the European Aviation Industry after the Pandemic.

DISCLAIMER: As we all know, Kai Tak rules apply, so here is an edited report of the tour:

Thursday June 9th – early arrivals met at Casa PB Curious in Altingen and we then gathered at the final resting grounds of PB Skout to raise a glass to absent friends. Needless to say that afterwards some fermented malt beverages were consumed.

Friday June 10th – most other tourists arrived and made their way to Tübingen, a beautiful university town, deemed too beautiful to tour by some piggies. In the afternoon the kit was distributed and the tour kicked off with a Stocherkahn fahrt on the Neckar river with plenty of refreshments. Quick side note – not all tourists made the boat ride due to an acute stomach flu!

After the boat ride we met up with some players of the TSV Hirschau Rugby team.

Saturday June 11th – Matchday. The piggies made their way to Hirschau, a 10 minute bus ride from the Hotel in Tübingen and prepared for the game in true piggies style. Standing in the sun or lying in the stands to mentally get in the zone. Highlight of the game was the 2 father & son duos that were playing for the piggies. The game was decided to be played in 3 blocks a 20 minutes and in the end TSV Hirschau beat the Potbellied Pigs by a score, nobody took note of! It was a nice sunny summer day in Germany, there was a decent crowd in the stands and the award ceremony after the game was nothing short of spectacular.

Player Of The Day and Dick Of The Day were handed out to Good Karl, (a guest player from Tübingen), and Shit Karl, aka PB Malaka.

After we got the bus back to Tübingen and had the Team dinner followed by drinks and a party with the boys and girls from TSV Hirschau.

Sunday, June 12th – After checking out we had a team lunch together at the Hotel Restaurant and then all piggies headed back to their families.
